Environmental pollution is a perennial problem to man. The culture of having to dispose waste properly in such a way that it is less or not harmful to the society is a practice that have really come a long way. However, over time disposing of waste, both organic and inorganic in one way or the other pose threat to man’s existence as non biodegradable waste such as plastic, glass, metal, tires, textile, batteries, electronics and paper do not decompose but remain in their physical form and pose huge threat of pollution to both land and aquatic habitats.
Hence, the idea of recycling was introduced. Recycling is the collection of already used component materials for break down and reuse.
Recycling starts with the proper collection of the waste. Most times, the waste are collected in separate bins or packages. For example plastic waste are collected differently from paper waste and in other cases were they are collected together, they are usually sorted. The sorted waste are then broken down with the aid of industrial machines. For example, plastics are heated in furnace to turn them into a molten state and are then reshaped into useful packaging materials. Glass and metals are also broken down into a reusable state and are then used to produce other useful materials.
Recycling has saved many producers the stress of sourcing for raw materials as the broken down materials are themselves raw materials. Consequently recycling of non biodegrable materials has helped in the cleansing of the environment. Furthermore, recycling of these materials as helped in maintaining an almost clean environment, safe for recycling many of these products would have lied wastes around us.
Recycling has also helped man in not depleting the reserve of raw materials available to him ask recycled materials used in producing new products can later on be broken down and recycled again therefore forming a cyclic chain of producing such materials.
WASTE RECYCLING IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Waste recycling in educational institutions is a culture that has come to stay. Pupils are taught right from the elementary school the importance of recycling and disposing of waste properly. In most schools, Waste bins are usually labeled to help pupils and students identify where to dump plastics, nylons, papers and Other non biodegrable materials.
This culture sticks with them until secondary school and the University Most secondary schools teach their students practical classes on recycling, yes students are made to see real life situations where this materials are broken down into reusable row materials and used in producing useful materials back for the public.
In universities, some applied science Department, Observe practical classes on recycling and sometimes assign projects to students on recycling as well as do further research on more convenient and environment friendly ways in recycling these materials.
Little wonder many of our students campuses today are very clean. Some students go as far as monetizing some of these waste by gathering them and selling off to recycling companies in large quantity thereby, raising funds to fend for themselves in their academics.
Recycling asides the huge environmental benefit it avail us with, can also be explored as a source of income.
