COPING IN THE MIDST OF UNCERTAINTIES AS A NIGERIA STUDENT

It's a mind game, the uncertainties in the school environment is so high it could cause unnecessary fear. From writing WAEC examination to writing JAMB and then, POSTUTME, the tension involved can cause serious repercussions. Of course, the tertiary institution is no different from them, the educational system is so disciplined that every sweat of hardwork counts. You could cope or run away from these things as it takes only a determined student to pass the batons (stages) of the education tree.

1. ZERO YOUR MIND.

Expect the best as well as the worst because it gets to a point that failure could prove to be overwhelming. Things do not go according to plan, more reason you should do your best and leave the rest. With a zeroed mind, you would be able to overcome some major challenges you might tend to face.

2. BE CERTAIN OF THE UNCERTAINTIES.

It boils down to confidence. In as much you have a zeroed mind about things, make sure to have a resolve as well. You know your weaknesses different from strengths (courses), so you have to know and come to peace with your uncertainties, things you are not sure of academically and work towards them because shying away from them can lead to something else or even failure.

3. BE COOL TEMPERED.

Anger and worry does not solve anything, so, for every challenge, handle it with a cool head, eradicate fear and tension even anger and deal with it reasonably. Do not overreact in any circumstance, take your time and evaluate things - the advantages and disadvantages of your actions, do not act on temporary feelings no matter what.

Do not on any condition hold grudges with anybody in the school environment and stay away from malice because there are better things to get your mind occupied with than giving unnecessary room for any mishaps. Breathe in fresh air and take every step with caution especially in the examination hall; tensions would rise from invigilators, questions and even seat arrangements and many a-times, students usually have a formation they set on how to cope with challenging courses. No one is ignorant of the fact that malpractice comes with harsh punishments, knowing this, it is advisable not to fidget during any examination.

If only the educational system could be a bit lenient but the strictness of institutions render a first class graduate a big cake in the industry. There is no room for leniency making frustration kick in, students could be so frustrated at the school's strict ways of handling things but since the standard is high, there's no other choice than to keep a cool head all the way and tackle the system diligently.

You can only cope with uncertainties if you groom your mind to see the good and positive side of things. You do not know what tomorrow hold, deal with today as it presents itself and let tomorrow handle itself. You can plan on how to cross the bridge without getting to it but don't cross the bridge when you are not even half-way close to it, it saves you from unnecessary stress and troubles.

HOW TO GET BEST PROJECTS AND DEFENSE IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS.

Classes upon classes, tutorials upon tutorials and finally, you would reach a stage where a project would be introduced. A project is a research given to students by their supervisors concerning their fields of study. It is a compulsory credit unit course for all intending graduating students. Project topics, depending on the department are mostly developed during the students internship, in other cases, the project supervisor suggests or recommends a topic to their student. While in a fewer cases, the topic could be the student's idea right from their first year in school.  The idea of projects is to test the student's readiness to solving real life and industry based problems. This is done by collating data about the project, juxtaposition of facts and figures, identifying problems and proferring solution. Offering possible recommendations where necessary. In other ways, students make research to solve industry based problems. The project starts when a supervisor assign a top...
